पाञ्चालाः सुभृशं कषीणाः कन्या मात्रावशेषिताः
न तेषां कुर कर्तारं कं चित पश्याम्य अहं शुभे

पाँचालों की कन्याएं अत्यन्त दयनीय स्थिति में हैं, उनके पास केवल उनकी गरिमा का एक अंश बचा है। ओ शुभ, मैं इन्हें देखता हूँ, पर इनके दुर्भाग्य का कर्ता कोई नजर नहीं आता।
