जब पाण्डवों ने तीन विभिन्न श्रेणियों के योद्धाओं को पराजित किया, तब द्रोणाचार्य, अपनी हार के कारण क्रोधित होकर, युद्धभूमि पर पञ्चाल योद्धाओं की तरफ अपना तीरवाणियां चला रहे थे, जिसमें उनकी ग़ुस्सा और युद्ध कौशल का प्रदर्शन हो रहा था।
