कौरव, अपनी कमजोरियों में, साहस से वंचित होकर, एक शक्तिशाली दुश्मन से भागते हुए डरपोक साँप जैसे दिखने लगे। उन्होंने अर्जुन, जो गाण्डीव धनुष लेकर थे, के विरुद्ध कर्ण को अपनी अंतिम आशा समझा।
