राजा च कषत्ता च महानुभावौ; भीष्मे सथिते परवन्तौ भवेताम
अयं तु धर्मज्ञतया महात्मा; न राज्यकामॊ नृपरॊ नदीजः

नरेश और कृषक, दोनों महानुभाव, भीष्म के सामने खड़े होने चाहिएं। परंतु यह महान आत्मा, धर्म के प्रति ज्ञान रखने वाला, न तो राज्य की इच्छा करता है और न ही अपने को दूसरों में गिनता है।
